R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, In order for our democracy to truly reflect the will 1-2 of the people, great effort must be made at the local level, and 1-3 the elected officers who serve as Republican precinct chairs in 1-4 Dallas County make key contributions to the grassroots political 1-5 process through their leadership and efforts to promote the ideals 1-6 of the Grand Old Party; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Precinct chairs are most visible to the public in 1-8 their role as election judges, a challenging job that entails 1-9 setting up voting machines and materials early on election day 1-10 several times a year and responding to the many problems and 1-11 questions that arise in helping each voter have the opportunity to 1-12 express his or her wishes at the polls; and 1-13 WHEREAS, In order to fulfill their duties as election judges, 1-14 precinct chairs must have an encyclopedic knowledge of the 1-15 complicated laws and procedures governing the voting process and 1-16 often work long hours with minimal financial compensation; after 1-17 the polls close for primary elections, political party conventions 1-18 are held in each precinct, with precinct chairs usually serving as 1-19 the chairs of these conventions; and 1-20 WHEREAS, These committed leaders also carry out the important 1-21 responsibility of serving on the official county executive 1-22 committee of the Republican Party and leading their elected 1-23 precinct delegates at county, senatorial district, and state 1-24 conventions, as well as working on voter registration, volunteer 2-1 recruitment, door-to-door canvassing, literature distribution, yard 2-2 signs, and telephone get-out-the-vote initiatives in general 2-3 elections; in addition, they help to determine the outcome of 2-4 lower-visibility races by educating the community about 2-5 lesser-known candidates; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The dedicated men and women who work as precinct 2-7 chairs play a critical role in making the democratic process work, 2-8 and the individuals who serve in that capacity for the Republican 2-9 Party in Dallas County have set standards of excellence in the 2-10 performance of their duties to which all may aspire; now, 2-11 therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby commend the Republican precinct chairs of Dallas 2-14 County for their exemplary service to the citizens of Texas, and in 2-15 particular, the following long-serving precinct chairs: with more 2-16 than 25 years of service, George Adams, Neldon Bateman, George and 2-17 Roberta Burke, James and Wilma Cawthon, Kay Copeland, Bergen Hall, 2-18 Sally McKenzie, and Virginia Steenson; with 20 to 25 years of 2-19 service, Nathan Allen, Ross Brannian, Charles Busbee, Barbara 2-20 Campbell, Patti Clapp, John Everett, Louise Gee, Jim and Eunice 2-21 Hamlin, Mike Harrison, Goldie Locke, Don Marquis, Jeanne McCaleb, 2-22 Dan Mosher, Paul Nelson, Bob Palmer, Toni Plugge, Ruth Potter, 2-23 Virgil Prim, Melvin Smith, Steve Strong, Stuart Tears, William and 2-24 Janette Thornhill, Bernice Warden, and Bonnie Watt; with 15 to 20 2-25 years of service, Jo Alseth, Stan Aten, Janice (Lee) Baldwin, Cecil 2-26 Bartel, Barbara Wilkerson Bell, H.
