R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Richard Hiram Porter on May 22, 2001, 1-2 at the age of 84, has brought a great loss to the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this esteemed Odessa resident; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Ensign, Kansas, Mr. Porter took the 1-5 former Lois Collins as his bride on December 7, 1935, and went on 1-6 to serve his nation with distinction during World War II as a 1-7 member of the U.S. Army; and 1-8 WHEREAS, He was a highly valued employee of Amoco during an 1-9 exemplary 37-year tenure with the company and, following his 1-10 retirement, moved to Odessa from Andrews in 1978; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Those who had the good fortune to share the 1-12 friendship of Richard Porter will long miss his presence, and he 1-13 will long be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched 1-14 during his time on this earth; now, therefore, be it 1-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-16 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Hiram Porter 1-17 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 1-18 son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Carolyn Porter; to his daughter 1-19 and son-in-law, Shirley West and the Honorable Buddy West; to his 1-20 brother, Leon Porter; to his grandchildren, Richie West, Lori 1-21 Bennington, Ami Satterwhite, Carisa Porter, and Jason Porter; to 1-22 his great-grandchildren, Kelsee West, Shelby West, Scotty 1-23 Satterwhite, Lexi Satterwhite, Baylee Bennington, and Morgan 1-24 Porter; and to the other relatives and many friends of this fine 2-1 man; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-3 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-4 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-5 Richard Hiram Porter.
