R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Sidney Naishtat is a long-standing member of the 1-2 legal profession with over six decades as a practicing attorney, 1-3 lending credence to the theory that practice does indeed make 1-4 perfect; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Naishtat was born January 1, 1910, in New York 1-6 City, and grew up in "The Bronx"; in spite of that serious 1-7 handicap, he excelled academically, earning degrees from St. John's 1-8 University and St. John's Law School and attaining his license to 1-9 practice law in 1937; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Possessed of an outstanding legal mind and shrewd 1-11 business acumen, Mr. Naishtat focused his practice on wills and 1-12 estate law, ensuring himself of a thriving business in the Big 1-13 Apple, and yet he still found time to be a doting parent to his 1-14 three sons, Elliott, Sandy, and Robert; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Always the concerned father, Sidney Naishtat has 1-16 intervened on behalf of his son Elliott on many an occasion when he 1-17 has "attempted to practice law," and the elder Mr. Naishtat has 1-18 long lobbied his son to return to New York to join him in business, 1-19 even going so far as to have a plaque designed that says "Naishtat 1-20 and Father, Attorneys-at-Law"; thus far, however, the younger 1-21 Naishtat has resisted his father's wishes as such a move would not 1-22 only require him to depart the great State of Texas but would also 1-23 find him living in perhaps the only city in the United States with 1-24 worse traffic problems than Austin; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Since his son's election to public office in 1990, 2-2 Sidney Naishtat has often threatened to move to Texas and take 2-3 Elliott under his seasoned professional wing, and Texans would no 2-4 doubt welcome the representative's learned father with open arms, 2-5 provided he leave his Yankee ways behind and be willing to git down 2-6 to bidness and learn to talk "Texan"; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby officially recognize Sidney Naishtat as an 2-9 Honorary Texas Lawyer with the understanding that, while this 2-10 measure does not actually give him license to practice law in the 2-11 Lone Star State, it is certain to make him the envy of his friends 2-12 and acquaintances in New York City; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Sidney Naishtat as an expression of high regard by the 2-15 Texas House of Representatives.
