                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to pay
 1-2     tribute to Laura Daniels Medlock of Austin for 24 years of
 1-3     outstanding service to the office of the speaker of the house, and
 1-4     during her fine tenure she has earned the admiration of all who
 1-5     know her; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Mrs. Medlock has been employed as the cook for the
 1-7     speakers of the house starting with Bill Clayton in 1977; over the
 1-8     course of 24 years in that post, she has had the opportunity to
 1-9     meet several United States presidents and many other notable guests
1-10     of the Lone Star State; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Born on May 1, 1923, to Simon and Sophia Hancock
1-12     Daniels, she attended Summitt School in Austin and in 1941, married
1-13     Claude D. Medlock, Sr.; Mrs. Medlock and her late husband were
1-14     blessed with a fine family of two daughters and three sons; and
1-15           WHEREAS, The maternal granddaughter of John and Oma Hancock,
1-16     Mrs. Medlock was named after her paternal grandmother, Laura
1-17     Daniels, whose husband, "Grandpa Jim" Daniels, earned a singular
1-18     historical footnote; he came to Austin from Tennessee with Stephen
1-19     F. Austin and was asked to nurse the infamous outlaw, Sam Bass, on
1-20     his deathbed; a painting of Grandpa Jim later was displayed in the
1-21     Texas State Capitol; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Laura Medlock exemplifies the virtues of commitment,
1-23     integrity, and professionalism, and it is most appropriate that she
1-24     be recognized for her significant contributions to the Texas
 2-1     Legislature; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby honor Laura Daniels Medlock for her notable
 2-4     24-year tenure with the office of the speaker of the house and
 2-5     commend her for her dedication to excellence; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Mrs. Medlock as an expression of high regard by the
 2-8     Texas House of Representatives.
