R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The retirement of M. B. "Sonny" Donaldson as
 1-2     superintendent of Aldine Independent School District brings to a
 1-3     close the distinguished career of an accomplished educator and
 1-4     administrator, and it is truly fitting to pay tribute to him at
 1-5     this time; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Donaldson was born in Moody and
 1-7     graduated from Tarleton State College in 1967; he went on to earn
 1-8     his master's degree in educational administration from Sam Houston
 1-9     State University in 1973 and a professional administrator
1-10     certificate from the same institution in 1976; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Employed with Aldine ISD since 1967, Mr. Donaldson
1-12     has inspired countless students in the Houston area to seek
1-13     academic success; he served as a teacher, coach, assistant
1-14     principal, and principal for Aldine Senior High and as the
1-15     district's athletic director and assistant superintendent before
1-16     assuming his current position in 1986; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Under his leadership, Aldine ISD created a student
1-18     financial aid office, encouraged community involvement, began
1-19     providing continuing education opportunities for staff, and
1-20     established intermediate and ninth-grade campuses and special early
1-21     childhood/prekindergarten centers; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Named Superintendent of the Year for Region IV in
1-23     1994 and 1995, this respected administrator has worked diligently
1-24     to develop an educational system that is based on the needs of the
 2-1     students; under his guidance, the Aldine ISD Board of Education was
 2-2     named the Outstanding School Board of Texas for 1998 by the Texas
 2-3     Association of School Administrators, and the American School Board
 2-4     Journal selected the board for a 1999 Magna Award for innovative
 2-5     programs that raise academic achievement; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Mr. Donaldson has improved the quality of education
 2-7     in Texas through his hard work and dedicated service, and it is a
 2-8     privilege to recognize him for his impressive accomplishments; now,
 2-9     therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-11     Legislature hereby commend M. B. Donaldson for his exemplary
2-12     service to Aldine ISD and extend to him sincere best wishes for
2-13     success and happiness as he embarks on his well-deserved
2-14     retirement; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16     prepared for Mr. Donaldson as an expression of high regard by the
2-17     Texas House of Representatives.
