R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The 2001 graduating class of White Oak High School
 1-2     in Gregg County has compiled a stellar record of academic
 1-3     achievement, one well deserving of special recognition by this
 1-4     chamber; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Collectively, White Oak seniors have been offered
 1-6     more than $1 million in scholarships, a feat that speaks volumes
 1-7     about their ability and their dedication; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Those who made all As throughout their four years of
 1-9     high school are Ashley Bell, Emily Breitenberg, Meredith Cappel,
1-10     Pamela Cassin, Matt Collier, Loren Davis, Carly Dostal, Jaime
1-11     Hudspeth, Nicole James, Julia Lowrey, Whitney Morris, Kym Pirkey,
1-12     Rocky Shields, Neely Smith, Hunter Taylor, and Amy Walker; and
1-13           WHEREAS, More than 25 seniors completed college hours during
1-14     their high school careers, among them Jessica McClane, who earned
1-15     30 hours, and Crystal Martin, who earned 22; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Jaime Hudspeth led the class as valedictorian, while
1-17     Pam Cassin took salutatorian honors; Meredith Cappel served as
1-18     class historian; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The accomplishments of the current graduating class
1-20     are a prominent indication of the success White Oak High School has
1-21     long enjoyed in nurturing the potential of its students; another
1-22     vantage point on the school's noteworthy record is provided by the
1-23     University Interscholastic League competition, where White Oak
1-24     students have won the literary championship 34 out of 37 years;
 2-1     this past year the school sent 17 students and its one-act-play
 2-2     contingent to regional competition, with LaToya Lewis ultimately
 2-3     winning first place in poetry at the state level and Kristen Gibbs
 2-4     placing fifth in ready writing; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, The quality of the faculty and the responsiveness of
 2-6     the students to rigorous expectations is also shown by the results
 2-7     of the exit-level TAAS test; in the 2000-2001 academic year, 33
 2-8     students answered at least 95 percent of the items correctly on one
 2-9     or more parts of the three-section exam; and
2-10           WHEREAS, Ranked as exemplary by the Texas Education Agency,
2-11     White Oak High School has prospered through the exceptional
2-12     commitment of its gifted teachers and administrators; and
2-13           WHEREAS, With the support of this outstanding staff, the
2-14     members of the 2001 class of White Oak High School have
2-15     demonstrated both intellectual ability and a capacity for hard
2-16     work, qualities that promise a bright and fulfilling future, and it
2-17     is indeed a pleasure and a privilege to honor them at this time;
2-18     now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-20     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the 2001 graduating seniors of
2-21     White Oak High School and extend to them all sincere best wishes
2-22     for continued success in their future endeavors.
