R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Rachel K. Johnston has served with distinction as
1-2 the legislative director in the office of State Representative
1-3 Miguel D. Wise this session; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A 1999 graduate of Boston University, where she
1-5 served as vice president of the College Democrats, Ms. Johnston has
1-6 an extensive background in politics; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Her valuable efforts as legislative director have
1-8 encompassed researching, analyzing, and tracking bills on a variety
1-9 of topics, such as immigration, housing, education, and economic
1-10 development; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Other duties at which Ms. Johnston has excelled have
1-12 included composing press releases, communicating with the Capitol
1-13 press corps, organizing press conferences, and coordinating the
1-14 drafting of legislation; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Before coming to the Lone Star State, Ms. Johnston
1-16 served as a deputy director and research director for the New
1-17 Hampshire Democratic Party, and has held many important positions
1-18 while working for a number of state and congressional officials;
1-19 and
1-20 WHEREAS, This talented woman has also contributed her time
1-21 and energies to such organizations as the Women's Action for New
1-22 Directions, National Women's Political Caucus, National
1-23 Organization for Women, as well as the American Civil Liberties
1-24 Union and the Sierra Club; moreover, she was a member of
2-1 AmeriCorps, a domestic Peace Corps program; and
2-2 WHEREAS, The constituents of District 39 have greatly
2-3 benefited from her expertise, experience, and hard work, and as
2-4 the 77th legislative session nears its conclusion, it is a pleasure
2-5 to commend Ms. Johnston for a job well done; now, therefore, be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-7 Legislature hereby commend Rachel K. Johnston for her valuable
2-8 service as legislative director in the office of State
2-9 Representative Miguel D. Wise and extend to her sincere best wishes
2-10 for continued success; and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for Ms. Johnston as an expression of high regard by the
2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
