R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 9, 2001, Erle A. Nye of Dallas was elected
 1-2     chairman of the board of regents of The Texas A&M University
 1-3     System; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Appointed to the board of regents by Governor George
 1-5     W. Bush in 1997, Mr. Nye has served as chairman of the Committee on
 1-6     Finance, as cochairman of the Committee on Biotechnology, and as a
 1-7     member of the Legislative Committee, Health Sciences Committee,
 1-8     Policy Review Committee, and Committee of Buildings and Physical
 1-9     Plant; he is also the board's special liaison to the Texas A&M
1-10     Foundation; and
1-11           WHEREAS, He is a member of the Texas A&M Development
1-12     Foundation Advisory Committee and The Chancellor's 21st Century
1-13     Council and former chairman of the Texas A&M University College of
1-14     Engineering External Advisory and Development Council; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Chairman of the board and chief executive of TXU and
1-16     several of its subsidiaries, Mr. Nye has donated his time and
1-17     energies to many professional organizations; he has served as
1-18     chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute and second vice chairman
1-19     and board member of the Edison Electric Institute's Executive
1-20     Committee; moreover, he is a registered professional engineer and a
1-21     member of local, state, and American bar associations; and
1-22           WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Nye is a
1-23     member of the Development Council of The University of Texas at
1-24     Dallas and serves on the executive boards for the Cox School of
 2-1     Business and School of Law, on the board of directors for the Tate
 2-2     Lecture Series, and as a member of the Executive Advisory Council
 2-3     of the Maguire Center for Ethics Policy and Public Responsibility
 2-4     for Southern Methodist University; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Actively involved in a wide range of civic and
 2-6     philanthropic organizations, he is a board member of the Dallas
 2-7     Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of America, and North Texas Public
 2-8     Broadcasting; he serves as a member of the Dallas Committee on
 2-9     Foreign Relations, Salvation Army's Dallas County Advisory Board,
2-10     the YWCA Metropolitan Dallas Advisory Board, the Dallas Symphony
2-11     CEO Council, and others too numerous to mention; and
2-12           WHEREAS, His myriad accomplishments have earned him such
2-13     notable accolades as the American Jewish Committee's 1999
2-14     Humanitarian of the Year Award and the Longhorn Council of Boy
2-15     Scouts of America's 1998 Distinguished Citizen Award, as well as a
2-16     1998 Father of the Year Award; and
2-17           WHEREAS, This talented gentleman has rendered invaluable
2-18     service to The Texas A&M University System and countless other
2-19     organizations, and he is most deserving of special recognition as
2-20     he assumes his new position as chairman of The Texas A&M University
2-21     System board of regents; now, therefore, be it
2-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-23     Legislature hereby congratulate Erle A. Nye on becoming chairman of
2-24     the board of regents of The Texas A&M University System and extend
2-25     to him sincere best wishes for success and happiness in his future
2-26     endeavors; and, be it further
2-27           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 3-1     prepared for Mr. Nye as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 3-2     House of Representatives.
