                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Bringing to a close a long and impressive 37-year
 1-2     career, Manuel P. Rodrigues, Jr., of Eagle Pass is retiring from
 1-3     the Texas Department of Transportation on May 31, 2001; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigues began his tenure in March 1964 as a
 1-5     laborer, and he quickly rose up the ranks from maintenance
 1-6     technician to assistant foreman to maintenance construction
 1-7     supervisor to roadway maintenance supervisor; he has also taught
 1-8     defensive driving, fleet safety, OSHA, and heavy-equipment operator
 1-9     classes; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Since May 1987, he has held the position of roadway
1-11     maintenance supervisor IV, in which capacity he has overseen all of
1-12     the maintenance work performed by the department in Maverick
1-13     County; his duties have involved scheduling work designated by the
1-14     Del Rio area engineer and coordinating the personnel, material, and
1-15     equipment for the jobs; and
1-16           WHEREAS, A native of Eagle Pass, Mr. Rodrigues has enjoyed a
1-17     close working relationship with state and local elected officials
1-18     and with the citizens of Maverick County; he has given tirelessly
1-19     to his community for 25 years as a volunteer fireman and since 1988
1-20     has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus, most recently
1-21     holding the position of Faithful Navigator IV; and
1-22           WHEREAS, In recognition of his committed public service, he
1-23     was given the Eagle Pass Citizen of the Year award in 1988;
1-24     moreover, he has received a plaque from his state representative in
 2-1     appreciation of his dedicated and selfless efforts toward the
 2-2     betterment of his community; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigues will be greatly missed by his
 2-4     colleagues at the department for his great sense of humor and
 2-5     candor, and it is a pleasure to join his many friends in wishing
 2-6     him the very best as he begins a well-deserved retirement; now,
 2-7     therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby honor Manuel P. Rodrigues, Jr., on his
2-10     retirement from the Laredo District-Eagle Pass Maintenance Office
2-11     of the Texas Department of Transportation and commend him for his
2-12     37 years of exemplary service; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Mr. Rodrigues as an expression of high regard by the
2-15     Texas House of Representatives.
