                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State
 1-2     of Texas, 77th Legislature, Regular Session, 2001, That House Rule
 1-3     13, Section 9(a), be suspended in part as provided by House Rule
 1-4     13, Section 9(f), to enable the conference committee appointed to
 1-5     resolve the differences on House Bill No. 2061, relating to
 1-6     establishing a historical representation advisory committee, to
 1-7     consider and take action on the following matters:
 1-8           (1)  House Rule 13, Section 9(a)(4), is suspended to permit
 1-9     the committee to add Section 442.0087, Government Code, to read as
1-10     follows:
1-11           Sec. 442.0087.  EQUITABLE REPRESENTATION IN MONUMENTS.
1-12     (a)  In this section, "monument" has the meaning assigned by
1-13     Section 443.015, as added by Chapter 1141, Acts of the 75th
1-14     Legislature, Regular Session, 1997.
1-15           (b)  To ensure that the diverse history of Texas is
1-16     accurately represented on land owned by the state other than the
1-17     Capitol Complex, the Texas Historical Commission shall:
1-18                 (1)  collect information relating to each monument on
1-19     land owned by the state other than the Capitol Complex; and
1-20                 (2)  in cooperation with the chair of the history
1-21     department at Prairie View A&M University, at The University of
1-22     Texas at Austin, or at any other land grant university in the
1-23     state, as determined by the commission, ensure the:
 2-1                       (A)  historical accuracy of the monuments; and
 2-2                       (B)  equitable representation of all Texans,
 2-3     including African slaves, African Americans, Hispanic Americans,
 2-4     Native Americans, women in Texas history, and Texans exemplifying
 2-5     military service and rural heritage in monuments on land owned by
 2-6     the state other than the Capitol Complex.
 2-7           (c)  The commission shall make the information collected
 2-8     under this section available to the public.
 2-9           Explanation:  The added text is necessary to require the
2-10     Texas Historical Commission to ensure that an equitable
2-11     representation of all Texans is reflected in the monuments on state
2-12     property other than the capitol complex and to ensure that certain
2-13     information about the monuments is available to the public.
