R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Mission High School baseball team completed an
 1-2     outstanding 2001 season, and its members and coaches are indeed
 1-3     deserving of special recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Under the guidance of coaches Eliseo Pompa, Rick
 1-5     Lozano, and Bernado Delgado, the Eagles placed second in their
 1-6     district with an 11-3 mark and finished the season with an
 1-7     impressive overall record of 28-12; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, In the 2001 University Interscholastic League (UIL)
 1-9     Class 5A playoffs, Mission captured the bi-district championship by
1-10     defeating the Weslaco High School Panthers and won the area
1-11     championship in a hard-fought three-game series against the Laredo
1-12     Alexander High School Bulldogs; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The Eagles put up a determined effort in the
1-14     regional quarterfinals before succumbing to Corpus Christi Ray High
1-15     School, and in their efforts demonstrated the value of teamwork,
1-16     respect, dedication, determination, and friendship; and
1-17           WHEREAS, A perennial power in baseball, the Eagles, with
1-18     their success this season, have upheld the school's tradition of
1-19     excellence in the sport; Mission has qualified for the UIL state
1-20     playoffs in eight of the last nine years and has also won a
1-21     district title in five of the past seven seasons; and
1-22           WHEREAS, The players and coaches of the Mission baseball team
1-23     came together to meet a common goal; with their hard work,
1-24     dedication, persistence, and infectious spirit, the Eagles proved
 2-1     themselves to be formidable competitors; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, For 40 games, these talented young men demonstrated
 2-3     their athletic skills while playing as a cohesive unit, and as they
 2-4     take justifiable pride and satisfaction in their outstanding
 2-5     season, it is indeed most appropriate to honor them at this time;
 2-6     now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby congratulate the Mission High School baseball
 2-9     team on its 2001 season and extend to the team members and coaches
2-10     sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for the Mission High School 2001 baseball team as an
2-13     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
