R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Lewis Kirk on July 18, 1999, at the
1-2 age of 69, brought a great loss to his relatives, his friends, and
1-3 the Jack County community of which he was such a vital part; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born June 7, 1930, on a ranch
1-5 near Postoak and remained close to the land as a rancher; in that
1-6 capacity, he raised sheep, cattle, and other livestock and also
1-7 applied his talents to a wool and mohair enterprise; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Kirk delighted in sharing his time and expertise
1-9 with young people and worked with many youth organizations, such as
1-10 4-H and FFA, providing encouragement and guidance to future
1-11 generations of Texans interested in agricultural careers; and
1-12 WHEREAS, In addition, he devoted his energy to a variety of
1-13 other worthy civic concerns, including the Jack County Volunteer
1-14 Fire Department, the Community Action Corporation in Wichita Falls,
1-15 and the Jack County Soil and Water Conservation District; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Honored with his family members as the Agriculture
1-17 Family of the Year for Jack County in 1987, Mr. Kirk was the
1-18 recipient of another prestigious accolade in 1999 when the
1-19 Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce gave him its Longtime Outstanding
1-20 Community Service Award; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Those who had the good fortune to know Lewis Kirk
1-22 will long miss his presence, and he is remembered with great
1-23 affection and admiration by all who cherish his memory; now,
1-24 therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lewis Kirk and extend
2-3 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his children,
2-4 Sandra Jackson, Sherita Forbus, Danny Kirk, and Levi Kirk; to his
2-5 11 grandchildren and great-grandchild; and to his other relatives
2-6 and many friends; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-8 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-9 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-10 Lewis Kirk.
