                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, in 1851, Pastor Casper Braun arrived in Houston
 1-2     after seminary in Basle Switzerland to help German-speaking
 1-3     newcomers organize the First German Evangelical Lutheran Church;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, now known as the Central Congregational Church,
 1-6     which has been housed in three locations in central Houston, most
 1-7     recently on Holman Street, this congregation in its history has
 1-8     been responsible for the organization of five additional Lutheran
 1-9     Churches in the Houston area; and
1-10           WHEREAS, the Central Congregational Church enjoys a long
1-11     standing tradition of community service and support to people of
1-12     all faiths, including serving as the host office of the Houston
1-13     Habitat for Humanity and the Houston Graduate School of Theology;
1-14     and
1-15           WHEREAS, the Central Congregational Church has a continuing
1-16     participation for more than the last 25 years in the Christian
1-17     Community Services Center of Houston, preparing over 100 meals a
1-18     day for home-bound senior citizens; and
1-19           WHEREAS, on September 16, 2001, the Central Congregational
1-20     Church will commemorate their 150 years of existence in special
1-21     services and activities; now therefore be it
1-22           RESOLVED, that the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-23     Legislature congratulate the Central Congregational Church for its
 2-1     commitment to serving the community; and be it further
 2-2           RESOLVED, that an official copy of this resolution be
 2-3     prepared for the Central Congregational Church as a token of esteem
 2-4     from the House of Representatives.
