                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The year 2001 marks the 30th wedding anniversary of
 1-2     Judge Bernald Fred Ashmead and Dr. Donna Jean Ashmead of Houston,
 1-3     and this noteworthy milestone in their marriage is indeed worthy of
 1-4     special recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Both natives of Houston, Judge Ashmead and the
 1-6     former Donna Jean Conner met 30 years ago at the first Houston
 1-7     Independent School District (ISD) board meeting that either had
 1-8     ever attended; when the young man glimpsed the young woman across
 1-9     the crowded room, he initiated a conversation as soon as possible;
1-10     they discovered they both had been born in St. Joseph's Hospital in
1-11     Houston, and love soon blossomed; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Judge Ashmead and his bride-to-be were married soon
1-13     after and enjoy a loving and supportive relationship;  the couple
1-14     take great pride in their family, including a son, Thomas McClain,
1-15     a daughter, Channing, and a cherished grandson, Tristan McClain
1-16     Ashmead; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Dr. Ashmead began her career in public and private
1-18     education more than three decades ago as an elementary school
1-19     teacher with the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD; she earned a bachelor's
1-20     degree from the University of Houston, a master's degree from Texas
1-21     Southern University, and a doctorate from Louisiana State
1-22     University; and
1-23           WHEREAS, After serving his country with distinction as a
1-24     member of the United States Navy, Judge Ashmead earned a bachelor's
 2-1     degree in history from the University of Southern Mississippi, and
 2-2     he has also devoted himself to a career in education; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Pooling their formidable talents as educators, Judge
 2-4     and Dr. Ashmead today own and operate a private school where the
 2-5     focus is assisting young people who have dropped out of high
 2-6     school; in addition, he also serves Liberty County citizens as a
 2-7     municipal judge for the City of Kenefick; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, This devoted couple have shared the trials and
 2-9     triumphs of three decades together, their commitment to each other
2-10     is a source of inspiration to their family and many friends, and it
2-11     is indeed appropriate that they be honored at this time; now,
2-12     therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Bernald Fred Ashmead and Dr.
2-15     Donna Jean Ashmead on the joyous occasion of their 30th wedding
2-16     anniversary and extend to them warmest wishes for good fortune and
2-17     happiness in the future; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for Judge and Dr. Ashmead as an expression of high regard
2-20     by the Texas House of Representatives.
