R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The members of this chamber are shocked at the news
 1-2     of the callous abandonment of 26 Mexican immigrants in Arizona, 14
 1-3     of whom lost their lives in the incident; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Stranded in the desert for five days and nights
 1-5     without food or water, the 14 victims succumbed to the lethal
 1-6     conditions after being left to die by smugglers; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Fortunately, rescuers in helicopters and four-wheel
 1-8     drive vehicles found the party and conveyed its surviving members
 1-9     to a hospital, but the toll in human life was still catastrophic;
1-10     and
1-11           WHEREAS, America has long stood as a beacon of hope to people
1-12     across the world, many of whom have struggled to make the journey
1-13     to our nation to begin a new life, and this brutal act is a
1-14     betrayal of the aspirations which that dream embodies; now,
1-15     therefore, be it
1-16           RESOLVED, That deepest sympathy be extended to the families
1-17     of those who lost their lives and that the surviving members of the
1-18     group be extended best wishes for a speedy recovery.
