No. 17 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the requirement that a magistrate provide reasonable 1-3 notice to the attorney representing the state before reducing the 1-4 amount of bail set for a defendant charged with or convicted of 1-5 certain serious offenses. 1-6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-7 SECTION 1. Chapter 17, Code of Criminal Procedure, is 1-8 amended by adding Article 17.331 to read as follows: 1-9 Art. 17.331. NOTICE OF BAIL REDUCTION REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN 1-10 DEFENDANTS. Before a magistrate reduces the amount of bail set 1-11 under this code for a defendant charged with or convicted of an 1-12 offense listed in Section 3g(a)(1), Article 42.12, the magistrate 1-13 shall provide reasonable notice of the proposed bail reduction to 1-14 the attorney representing the state. 1-15 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
