 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the requirement that a magistrate provide reasonable
 1-9     notice to the attorney representing the state before reducing the
1-10     amount of bail set for a defendant charged with or convicted of
1-11     certain serious offenses.
1-12           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13           SECTION 1.  Chapter 17, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
1-14     amended by adding Article 17.331 to read as follows:
1-15           Art. 17.331.  NOTICE OF BAIL REDUCTION REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN
1-16     DEFENDANTS.  Before a magistrate reduces the amount of bail set
1-17     under this code for a defendant charged with or convicted of an
1-18     offense listed in Section 3g(a)(1), Article 42.12, the magistrate
1-19     shall provide reasonable notice of the proposed bail reduction to
1-20     the attorney representing the state.
1-21           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
