                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the length of time during which a state governmental
 1-3     body must post notice of a meeting under the open meetings law.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 551.044(a), Government Code, is amended to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           (a) The secretary of state must post notice on the Internet
 1-8     of a meeting of a state board, commission, department, or officer
 1-9     having statewide jurisdiction for at least five [seven] days before
1-10     the day of the meeting.  The secretary of state shall provide
1-11     during regular office hours a computer terminal at a place
1-12     convenient to the public in the office of the secretary of state
1-13     that members of the public may use to view notices of meetings
1-14     posted by the secretary of state.
1-15           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001. The
1-16     change in law made by this Act applies only to a meeting of a state
1-17     governmental body that first convenes on or after September 6,
1-18     2001.
