 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the length of time notice of a meeting of a
 1-9     governmental body with statewide jurisdiction must be posted under
1-10     the open meetings law.
1-11           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-12           SECTION 1.  Subsection (a), Section 551.044, Government Code,
1-13     is amended to read as follows:
1-14           (a) The secretary of state must post notice on the Internet
1-15     of a meeting of a state board, commission, department, or officer
1-16     having statewide jurisdiction for at least five [seven] days before
1-17     the day of the meeting.  The secretary of state shall provide
1-18     during regular office hours a computer terminal at a place
1-19     convenient to the public in the office of the secretary of state
1-20     that members of the public may use to view notices of meetings
1-21     posted by the secretary of state.
1-22           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.  The
1-23     change in law made by this Act applies only to a meeting of a state
1-24     governmental body that first convenes on or after September 6,
1-25     2001.
