1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to the authority of a commissioners court of a county to
1-9 make payroll deductions at the request of a county employee.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Section 155.001, Local Government Code, is
1-12 amended to read as follows:
1-13 Sec. 155.001. DEDUCTIONS AUTHORIZED IN COUNTIES; PURPOSES.
1-14 (a) The commissioners court, on the request of a county employee,
1-15 may authorize a payroll deduction to be made from the employee's
1-16 wages or salary for:
1-17 (1) payment to a credit union;
1-18 (2) [.]
1-19 [(b) In a county with a population of 20,000 or more, the
1-20 commissioners court, on the request of a county employee, may
1-21 authorize a payroll deduction to be made from the employee's wages
1-22 or salary for:]
1-23 [(1)] payment of membership dues in a labor union or a
1-24 bona fide employees association;
1-25 (3) [(2)] payment of fees for parking in a
1-26 county-owned facility; or
1-27 (4) [(3)] payment to a charitable organization.
1-28 (b) [(c)] In this section, "charitable organization" has the
1-29 meaning assigned by Section 659.131, Government Code.
1-30 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-31 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-32 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
1-33 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-34 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
