1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to a requirement that information about anatomical gifts
1-3 be included in the curriculum of certain driver education and
1-4 driving safety courses.
1-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-6 SECTION 1. Section 6, Texas Driver and Traffic Safety
1-7 Education Act (Article 4413(29c), Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes),
1-8 is amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1-9 (d) The commissioner by rule shall require that information
1-10 relating to anatomical gifts be included in the curriculum of each
1-11 driver education and driving safety course. The curriculum must
1-12 include information about the matters listed in Section 46.001(a),
1-13 Health and Safety Code, as added by Chapter 1516, Acts of the 76th
1-14 Legislature, Regular Session, 1999. The commissioner shall consult
1-15 with the Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of
1-16 Health in developing rules under this subsection.
1-17 SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2002, the commissioner
1-18 of education shall adopt rules under Subsection (d), Section 6,
1-19 Texas Driver and Traffic Safety Education Act (Article 4413(29c),
1-20 Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), as added by this Act.
1-21 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-22 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-23 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
1-24 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-25 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
