 1-8                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-9                                   AN ACT
1-10     relating to the Border Trade Advisory Committee.
1-11           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-12           SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 201, Transportation Code,
1-13     is amended by adding Section 201.114 to read as follows:
1-14           Sec. 201.114.  BORDER TRADE ADVISORY COMMITTEE.  (a)  The
1-15     commission shall establish the Border Trade Advisory Committee to
1-16     define and develop a strategy and make recommendations to the
1-17     commission for addressing the highest priority border trade
1-18     transportation challenges.  In determining action to be taken on
1-19     the recommendations, the commission shall consider the importance
1-20     of trade with the United Mexican States, potential sources of
1-21     infrastructure funding at border ports, and the value of trade
1-22     activity in the department's districts adjacent to the border with
1-23     the United Mexican States.
1-24           (b)  The commission may adopt rules governing the Border
1-25     Trade Advisory Committee.
1-26           (c)  Section 2110.008, Government Code, does not apply to the
1-27     Border Trade Advisory Committee.
1-28           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
