                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the adjustment of Texas Department of Transportation
 1-3     funding formulas to account for certain international traffic.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 201, Transportation Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 201.709 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 201.709.  FUNDING FORMULAS; AREAS AFFECTED BY
 1-8     INTERNATIONAL TRADE. The department shall adjust its funding
 1-9     formulas to provide for additional maintenance and construction of
1-10     roads in areas most significantly affected by the North American
1-11     Free Trade Agreement. In making the adjustment the department shall
1-12     consider the population of the areas, the number of vehicles
1-13     entering the areas from Mexico, the weight of cargo shipped into or
1-14     through the areas, and the adequacy of existing highways in the
1-15     areas.
1-16           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
