1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to requiring the Texas Department of Transportation to
 1-3     meet with transportation officials of bordering states of the
 1-4     United Mexican States to discuss transportation and infrastructure
 1-5     issues.
 1-6           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-7           SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 201, Transportation Code,
 1-8     is amended by adding Section 201.207 to read as follows:
 1-9           Sec. 201.207.  CROSS-BORDER TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
1-10     MEETINGS.  The department shall initiate efforts to meet at least
1-11     semiannually with the department's counterparts in those states of
1-12     the United Mexican States that border this state to discuss
1-13     transportation and infrastructure issues.  To the extent
1-14     practicable, the department shall meet at least semiannually with
1-15     its counterparts in those bordering states to discuss
1-16     transportation and infrastructure issues.
1-17           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
