By Shapleigh S.B. No. 247 77R382 JD-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the confidentiality of information held by tax 1-3 appraisal offices that identifies the home addresses of peace 1-4 officers, certain college and university security officers, and 1-5 employees of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. 1-6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-7 SECTION 1. Chapter 25, Tax Code, is amended by adding Section 1-8 25.025 to read as follows: 1-9 Sec. 25.025. CONFIDENTIALITY OF CERTAIN HOME ADDRESS 1-10 INFORMATION. (a) Information in appraisal records under Section 1-11 25.02 is confidential and is available only for the official use of 1-12 the appraisal district, this state, the comptroller, and taxing 1-13 units and political subdivisions of this state if: 1-14 (1) the information identifies the home address of a 1-15 named individual who is: 1-16 (A) a peace officer as defined by Article 2.12, 1-17 Code of Criminal Procedure; 1-18 (B) a security officer commissioned under 1-19 Section 51.212, Education Code; or 1-20 (C) an employee of the Texas Department of 1-21 Criminal Justice; and 1-22 (2) the peace officer, security officer, or employee 1-23 elects to restrict public access to the information on the form 1-24 prescribed for that purpose by the comptroller under Section 5.07. 2-1 (b) An election under Subsection (a) remains valid until 2-2 rescinded in writing by the peace officer, security officer, or 2-3 employee. 2-4 (c) This section does not prohibit the public disclosure of 2-5 information in appraisal records that identifies property according 2-6 to an address if the information does not identify an individual 2-7 who has made an election under Subsection (b) in connection with 2-8 the individual's address. 2-9 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
