                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the penalty for certain speeding offenses.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Subchapter H, Chapter 545, Transportation Code,
 1-5     is amended by adding Section 545.366 to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 545.366.  PENALTY:  DRIVING 95 MILES PER HOUR OR MORE.
 1-7     A person who commits an offense under this subtitle by driving at a
 1-8     speed of 95 miles per hour or more shall be punished by a fine of
 1-9     not less than $200 or more than $500.
1-10           SECTION 2.  (a)  The change in law made by this Act applies
1-11     only to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this
1-12     Act.  For the purposes of this section, an offense is committed
1-13     before the effective date of this Act if any element of the offense
1-14     occurs before that date.
1-15           (b)  An offense committed before the effective date of this
1-16     Act is governed by the law in effect when the offense was
1-17     committed, and the former law is continued in effect for that
1-18     purpose.
1-19           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
