 1-8           (1)  On page  , line   , after "(2)" insert "a statement
 1-9     signed by an officer of the non-profit disaster relief organization
1-10     that the vehicle has not been used for any purpose other than
1-11     emergencies and qualifies for registration under this section; and"
1-12           (2)  On page  , line   , reinstate Subdivision "(3)".
1-13                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-14                                   AN ACT
1-15     relating to application for registration of vehicles used by
1-16     nonprofit disaster relief organizations.
1-17           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-18           SECTION 1.  Subsection (b), Section 502.203, Transportation
1-19     Code, is amended to read as follows:
1-20           (b)  An application for registration under this section must
1-21     include:
1-22                 (1)  a statement by the owner of the vehicle that the
1-23     vehicle is used exclusively for emergencies and has not been used
1-24     for any other purpose; and
1-25                 (2)  [a statement by the sheriff of the county in which
1-26     the vehicle is registered that the vehicle has not been used for
1-27     any purpose other than emergencies; and]
1-28                 [(3)]  a reasonable description of the vehicle and the
1-29     emergency equipment included in the vehicle.
1-30           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-31     applies only to an application submitted on or after the effective
1-32     date of this Act.  An application submitted before the effective
1-33     date of this Act is governed by the law in effect when the
1-34     application was submitted, and the former law is continued in
1-35     effect for that purpose.
