                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to federal authorization for the possible expansion of
 1-3     coverage under the state child health plan for certain low-income
 1-4     children.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Section 6, Chapter 235, Acts of the 76th
 1-7     Legislature, Regular Session, 1999, is amended to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 6.  If, before implementing any provision of Chapter 62,
 1-9     Health and Safety Code, as added by this Act, or expanding coverage
1-10     under the state child health plan to include adult family members
1-11     consistent with federal waiver authority, the Health and Human
1-12     Services Commission determines that a waiver or authorization from
1-13     a federal agency is necessary for implementation of that provision
1-14     or coverage expansion, the commission shall request the waiver or
1-15     authorization and may delay implementing that provision until the
1-16     waiver or authorization is granted.
1-17           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
