A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to a leave of absence for certain state employees who are
1-3 donating an organ, bone marrow, or blood.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 661, Government Code, is
1-6 amended by adding Sections 661.915 and 661.916 to read as follows:
1-7 Sec. 661.915. LEAVE FOR ORGAN OR BONE MARROW DONORS. (a) A
1-8 state employee is entitled to a leave of absence without a
1-9 deduction in salary for the time necessary to permit the employee
1-10 to serve as a bone-marrow or organ donor.
1-11 (b) The leave of absence provided by this section may not
1-12 exceed:
1-13 (1) five working days in a fiscal year to serve as a
1-14 bone-marrow donor; or
1-15 (2) 30 working days in a fiscal year to serve as an
1-16 organ donor.
1-17 Sec. 661.916. LEAVE FOR BLOOD DONATION. A state agency
1-18 shall allow each agency employee sufficient time off, without a
1-19 deduction in salary or accrued leave, to donate blood. An employee
1-20 may receive time off under this section not more than four times in
1-21 a fiscal year.
1-22 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
