                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to trustees of military reservation school districts.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1. Section 11.352(b), Education Code, is amended to
 1-5     read as follows:
 1-6           (b)  For each military reservation school district, the State
 1-7     Board of Education may appoint a board of three or five trustees.
 1-8     Enlisted military personnel and military officers may be appointed
 1-9     to the school board.  A majority of the trustees appointed for the
1-10     district must be civilians and all may be civilians.  The trustees
1-11     shall be selected from a list of persons who are qualified to serve
1-12     as members of a school district board of trustees under Section
1-13     11.061 and who live or are employed on the military reservation.
1-14     The list shall be furnished to the board by the commanding officer
1-15     of the military reservation.  The trustees appointed serve terms of
1-16     two years.
1-17           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-18     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-19     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-20     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-21     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
