 1-8                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-9                                   AN ACT
1-10     relating to trustees of military reservation school districts.
1-11           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-12           SECTION 1.  Subsection (b), Section 11.352, Education Code,
1-13     is amended to read as follows:
1-14           (b)  For each military reservation school district, the State
1-15     Board of Education may appoint a board of three or five trustees.
1-16     Enlisted military personnel and military officers may be appointed
1-17     to the school board.  Military retirees and parents whose children
1-18     are enrolled in the primary or secondary school on the military
1-19     reservation may be appointed to the school board.  A majority of
1-20     the trustees appointed for the district must be civilians and all
1-21     may be civilians.  The trustees shall be selected from a list of
1-22     persons who are qualified to serve as members of a school district
1-23     board of trustees under Section 11.061 and who live or are employed
1-24     on the military reservation.  The list shall be furnished to the
1-25     board by the commanding officer of the military reservation.  The
1-26     trustees appointed serve terms of two years.
1-27           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-28     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-29     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-30     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-31     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
