                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the composition of the districts of the Texas Senate.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1. The districts from which the members of the Texas
 1-5     Senate are elected are the districts as provided by law and used
 1-6     for the election of the members of the Senate of the 77th
 1-7     Legislature except as those districts are changed by Section 2 of
 1-8     this Act.
 1-9           SECTION 2. (a)  The portion of Senate District 19 located in
1-10     Reeves County is transferred to Senate District 28.
1-11           (b)  The portion of Senate District 21 located in Uvalde
1-12     County is transferred to Senate District 19.
1-13           (c)  The portion of Senate District 25 located in Llano
1-14     County is transferred to Senate District 24.
1-15           SECTION 3. The districts established by this Act apply to the
1-16     election of the members of the Texas Senate beginning with the
1-17     primary and general elections in 2002 for members of the 78th
1-18     Legislature.  This Act does not affect the membership or districts
1-19     of the Texas Senate of the 77th Legislature.
1-20           SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-21     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-22     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-23     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-24     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
