                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to school districts with year-round schools operated on
 1-3     multitrack calendars.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 25.084, Education Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
 1-7           (c)  A school district that operates any of its schools
 1-8     year-round on a multitrack calendar shall, on written request of a
 1-9     parent of two or more district students enrolled in one or more
1-10     such schools, place each of the parent's children on the same
1-11     track.  A district to which this subsection applies shall provide
1-12     annual written notice of the procedure for filing a request under
1-13     this subsection to the parent of each district student enrolled in
1-14     a year-round school operated on a multitrack calendar.  For
1-15     purposes of this subsection, "parent" includes a person standing in
1-16     parental relation.
1-17           SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2001-2002
1-18     school year.
1-19           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-20     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-21     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-22     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-23     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
