                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to document preparation costs in connection with mental
 1-3     health proceedings.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 571.018, Health and Safety Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Subsection (k) to read as follows:
 1-7           (k)  If a county in which a state mental hospital is located
 1-8     incurs costs in the preparation of documents related to mental
 1-9     health proceedings for a patient or proposed patient in connection
1-10     with treatment at the state mental hospital, the county may charge
1-11     the county of residence of the patient or proposed patient for
1-12     those costs.
1-13           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
