1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to requirements regarding certification that a forensic
1-3 anthropologist must meet in order to assist a medical examiner.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Subsection (n), Article 49.10, Code of Criminal
1-6 Procedure, is amended to read as follows:
1-7 (n) On discovering the body of a deceased person in the
1-8 circumstances described by Article 49.04(a)(3)(B), the medical
1-9 examiner may request the aid of a forensic anthropologist in the
1-10 examination of the body. The forensic anthropologist must be
1-11 eligible for board certification [board-certified] by a nationally
1-12 recognized association that accredits practitioners in the forensic
1-13 sciences. The forensic anthropologist shall attempt to establish
1-14 whether the body is of a human or animal, whether evidence of
1-15 childbirth, injury, or disease exists, and the sex, race, age,
1-16 stature, and physical anomalies of the body. The forensic
1-17 anthropologist may also attempt to establish the cause, manner, and
1-18 time of death.
1-19 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
