1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the compensation received by peace officers
 1-3     commissioned by the Department of Public Safety who are required to
 1-4     work on certain holidays.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Section 662.005, Government Code, is amended by
 1-7     adding a new Subsection (b) and relettering the existing Subsection
 1-8     (b) as Subsection (c) to read as follows:
 1-9           (b)  Except as provided by Section 662.010, and
1-10     notwithstanding Section 659.015 or another law, a state employee
1-11     who is a peace officer commissioned by the Department of Public
1-12     Safety and who is required to work on a national or state holiday
1-13     that falls on a Saturday or Sunday is entitled to compensatory time
1-14     off at the rate of one hour for each hour worked on the holiday.
1-15           (c)  In this section, "state employee":
1-16                 (1)  includes an individual who uses paid leave from a
1-17     state agency; and
1-18                 (2)  does not include an individual who uses unpaid
1-19     leave from a state agency.
1-20           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
