 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the compensation received by state peace officers who
 1-9     are required to work on certain holidays.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1.  Section 662.005, Government Code, is amended by
1-12     adding a new Subsection (b) and relettering the existing Subsection
1-13     (b) as Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1-14           (b)  Except as provided by Section 662.010, and
1-15     notwithstanding Section 659.015 or another law, a state employee
1-16     who is a peace officer under Article 2.12, Code of Criminal
1-17     Procedure, and who is required to work on a national or state
1-18     holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday is entitled to
1-19     compensatory time off at the rate of one hour for each hour worked
1-20     on the holiday.
1-21           (c)  In this section, "state employee":
1-22                 (1)  includes an individual who uses paid leave from a
1-23     state agency; and
1-24                 (2)  does not include an individual who uses unpaid
1-25     leave from a state agency.
1-26           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
