                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the operation of the Castro County Hospital District.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Subsection (a), Section 3, Chapter 103, Acts of
 1-5     the 57th Legislature, Regular Session, 1961, is amended to read as
 1-6     follows:
 1-7           (a)  Within ten (10) days after such election is held the
 1-8     Commissioners Court in such county shall convene and canvass the
 1-9     returns of the election, and if a majority of the electors voting
1-10     at said election voted in favor of the proposition, the court shall
1-11     so find and declare the hospital district established and created
1-12     and appoint five (5) persons as directors of the hospital district
1-13     to serve until the first Saturday in April following the creation
1-14     and establishment of the district at which time five (5) directors
1-15     shall be elected.  The three (3) directors receiving the highest
1-16     vote at such first election shall serve for two (2) years, the
1-17     other two (2) directors shall serve for one (1) year.  Thereafter,
1-18     all directors of the Hansford County and Ochiltree County hospital
1-19     districts shall serve for a period of two (2) years and until their
1-20     successor has been duly elected or appointed and qualified.  All
1-21     directors of the Castro County Hospital District shall serve for a
1-22     period of three (3) years and until their successor has been duly
1-23     elected or appointed and qualified, except that the directors
1-24     elected in 2000 and one of the directors elected in 2001 shall
1-25     serve for two years and their successor directors shall serve for
 2-1     three-year terms.
 2-2           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 2-3     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 2-4     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 2-5     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 2-6     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
