                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to a county's authority to set a fee for providing an
 1-3     online service.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 118, Local Government Code,
 1-6     is amended by adding Section 118.003 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 118.003.  FEES FOR ONLINE SERVICES.  (a)  The
 1-8     commissioners court of a county may set a reasonable fee for a
 1-9     service provided online by a county officer or another county
1-10     entity.
1-11           (b)  The commissioners court may not set a fee under this
1-12     section that is higher than is necessary to pay the expense of
1-13     providing the service.
1-14           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
