 1-8                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-9                                   AN ACT
1-10     relating to municipal regulation of nonconforming off-premise
1-11     signs.
1-12           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 216, Local Government Code,
1-14     is amended by adding Section 216.016 to read as follows:
1-15           Sec. 216.016.  REGULATION OF OFF-PREMISE SIGNS.
1-16     Notwithstanding any other law, a municipality that permits the
1-17     replacement of a nonconforming off-premise sign by a new
1-18     nonconforming off-premise sign owned by a person other than the
1-19     owner of the replaced sign shall permit the owner of the sign that
1-20     was removed to erect a comparable sign at a location designated by
1-21     the owner of the displaced sign on property zoned for commercial,
1-22     industrial, or manufacturing uses.
1-23           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
