                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the placement of the Camp Howze historical monument.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Chapter 250, Transportation Code, is amended by
 1-5     adding Section 250.002 to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 250.002.  CAMP HOWZE HISTORICAL MONUMENT.  (a) The
 1-7     department shall permit a private organization formed for the
 1-8     purpose to erect at the Texas travel information center adjacent to
 1-9     Interstate 35 near Gainesville a monument commemorating Camp Howze
1-10     and the soldiers of the 84th, 86th, and 103rd divisions of the
1-11     United States Army who served during World War II.
1-12           (b)  On behalf of the state, the department may accept the
1-13     monument as a gift and spend funds to maintain the monument.  The
1-14     department may accept a grant or donation to assist in financing
1-15     the maintenance of the monument.
1-16           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-17     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-18     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-19     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-20     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
