No. 803 By: Haywood 1-9 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-10 AN ACT 1-11 relating to the placement of the Camp Howze historical monument. 1-12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-13 SECTION 1. Chapter 250, Transportation Code, is amended by 1-14 adding Section 250.002 to read as follows: 1-15 Sec. 250.002. CAMP HOWZE HISTORICAL MONUMENT. (a) The 1-16 department shall permit a private organization formed for the 1-17 purpose to erect at the Texas travel information center adjacent to 1-18 Interstate 35 near Gainesville a monument honoring men of the 103rd 1-19 division of the United States Army and the division's support units 1-20 who served during World War II. 1-21 (b) On behalf of the state, the department may accept the 1-22 monument as a gift and spend funds to erect and maintain the 1-23 monument. The department may accept grants or donations to assist 1-24 in financing the maintenance of the monument. 1-25 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 1-26 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 1-27 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this 1-28 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 1-29 Act takes effect September 1, 2001. 1-30 * * * * *
