 1-8                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-9                                   AN ACT
1-10     relating to the requirement that the name of a state agency be
1-11     printed on certain state motor vehicles.
1-12           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13           SECTION 1.  Section 721.003, Transportation Code, is amended
1-14     by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (e) to read as
1-15     follows:
1-16           (a)  The governing bodies of the following state agencies or
1-17     divisions by rule may exempt from the requirements of Section
1-18     721.002 a motor vehicle that is under the control and custody of
1-19     the agency or division:
1-20                 (1)  Texas Commission on Fire Protection;
1-21                 (2)  Texas State Board of Pharmacy;
1-22                 (3)  Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental
1-23     Retardation;
1-24                 (4)  Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas;
1-25                 (5)  the institutional division or the pardons and
1-26     paroles division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice;
1-27                 (6)  Board of Pardons and Paroles;
1-28                 (7)  Parks and Wildlife Department;
1-29                 (8)  Railroad Commission of Texas;
1-30                 (9)  Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission;
1-31                 (10)  Texas Department of Banking [Department of
1-32     Texas];
1-33                 (11)  Savings and Loan Department [of Texas];
1-34                 (12)  Texas Juvenile Probation Commission;
1-35                 (13)  Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission;
1-36                 (14)  Texas Youth Commission; [and]
1-37                 (15)  Texas Lottery Commission;
1-38                 (16)  the office of the attorney general;
1-39                 (17)  Texas Department of Insurance; and
1-40                 (18)  an agency that receives an appropriation under an
1-41     article of the General Appropriations Act that appropriates money
1-42     to the legislature.
1-43           (e)  A rule adopted by the Texas Lottery Commission under
1-44     Subsection (a)  may exempt from the requirements of Section 721.002
1-45     only a motor vehicle used exclusively for surveillance purposes.
1-46           SECTION 2.  Subsection (b), Section 721.003, Transportation
1-47     Code, is repealed.
1-48           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
