 1-8                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-9                                   AN ACT
1-10     relating to salary supplements by a county or a municipality for
1-11     child and adult protective services workers.
1-12           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13           SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 40, Human Resources Code,
1-14     is amended by adding Section 40.0321 to read as follows:
1-15           Sec. 40.0321.  SALARY SUPPLEMENTATION BY COUNTY OR
1-16     MUNICIPALITY.  (a)  A county or municipality may supplement, from
1-17     its own funds, the salary of a department employee whose duties
1-18     include providing services as part of, or relating to, the
1-19     provision of child protective services and adult protective
1-20     services by the department.
1-21           (b)  A department employee who has worked in the same
1-22     position for the department in a different region is not eligible
1-23     for a salary supplement under Subsection (a) for a minimum of six
1-24     months after assuming the position in the new region.
1-25           (c)  Section 659.020, Government Code, does not apply to the
1-26     supplement authorized by this section.
1-27           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
