 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to compensation for services rendered at a polling place
 1-9     by election officers.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1.  Subsection (a), Section 32.091, Election Code, is
1-12     amended to read as follows:
1-13           (a)  An election judge or clerk is entitled to compensation
1-14     for services rendered at a precinct polling place at an hourly rate
1-15     not to exceed the amount fixed by the appropriate authority, which
1-16     amount must be at least the federal minimum hourly wage [$6].  A
1-17     judge or clerk may be compensated at that rate for services
1-18     rendered under Section 62.014(c).
1-19           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
