                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the fee for reinstatement or issuance of certain
 1-3     suspended or denied driver's licenses.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subsection (a), Section 524.051, Transportation
 1-6     Code, is amended to read as follows:
 1-7           (a)  A driver's license suspended under this chapter may not
 1-8     be reinstated or another driver's license issued to the person
 1-9     until the person pays the department a fee of $125 [$100] in
1-10     addition to any other fee required by law.
1-11           SECTION 2.  Subsection (a), Section 724.046, Transportation
1-12     Code, is amended to read as follows:
1-13           (a)  A license suspended under this chapter may not be
1-14     reinstated or a new license issued until the person whose license
1-15     has been suspended pays to the department a fee of $125 [$100] in
1-16     addition to any other fee required by law.  A person subject to a
1-17     denial order issued under this chapter may not obtain a license
1-18     after the period of denial has ended until the person pays to the
1-19     department a fee of $125 [$100] in addition to any other fee
1-20     required by law.
1-21           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-22     applies only to a fee collected under Section 524.051 or 724.046,
1-23     Transportation Code, as amended by this Act, after the effective
1-24     date of this Act.
