 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the preparation of a judgment in a criminal case.
 1-9           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-10           SECTION 1.  Section 2, Article 42.01, Code of Criminal
1-11     Procedure, is amended to read as follows:
1-12           Sec. 2.  The judge may order the  prosecuting attorney, [or]
1-13     the attorney or attorneys representing any defendant, or the court
1-14     clerk [under the supervision of an attorney,] to prepare the
1-15     judgment, or the court may prepare the judgment [same].
1-16           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-17     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-18     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-19     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-20     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
