                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the use of the Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry operated by
 1-3     the Texas Department of Transportation.
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Chapter 342, Transportation Code, is amended by
 1-5     adding Subchapter G to read as follows:
 1-6                 SUBCHAPTER G.  GALVESTON-PORT BOLIVAR FERRY
 1-7           Sec. 342.501.  FERRY VEHICLE STICKER.  (a)  A resident or
 1-8     homeowner of the Bolivar Peninsula may apply to the department for
 1-9     a sticker for a motor vehicle owned by the applicant that entitles
1-10     the vehicle to have priority in boarding the Galveston-Port Bolivar
1-11     ferry operated by the department.
1-12           (b)  The department shall:
1-13                 (1)  design the sticker; and
1-14                 (2)  designate the place where a sticker must be
1-15     affixed to the windshield of the motor vehicle for which it is
1-16     issued.
1-17           (c)  An applicant must provide sufficient proof, as
1-18     determined by the department, that the applicant:
1-19                 (1)  is a resident or homeowner of Bolivar Peninsula;
1-20     and
1-21                 (2)  owns or is renting or leasing the motor vehicle
1-22     for which the sticker is to be issued.
1-23           Sec. 342.502.  FEE.  (a)  The annual fee for a ferry vehicle
1-24     sticker under this subchapter is $30.
 2-1           (b)  Of each fee collected under this section, the department
 2-2     shall:
 2-3                 (1)  deposit $17.50 in the state highway fund, $5 of
 2-4     which shall be used to defray the cost of administering this
 2-5     subchapter; and
 2-6                 (2)  give $12.50 to the comptroller for deposit in the
 2-7     parks and wildlife operating account.
 2-8           Sec. 342.503.  RULES AND FORMS.  (a)  The department may
 2-9     adopt rules to administer this subchapter.
2-10           (b)  The department shall prescribe forms necessary for the
2-11     administration of this subchapter.
2-12           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
