                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to restrictions on artificial recharge of the Edwards
 1-3     Aquifer.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 1.44, Chapter 626, Acts of the 73rd
 1-6     Legislature, Regular Session, 1993, is amended by adding Subsection
 1-7     (e) to read as follows:
 1-8           (e)  The authority may contract for injection or artificial
 1-9     recharge under this section only if the water used for injection or
1-10     artificial recharge is surface water.
1-11           SECTION 2.  Subchapter B, Chapter 26, Water Code, is amended
1-12     by adding Section 26.0465 to read as follows:
1-13           Sec. 26.0465.   RESTRICTIONS ON ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE OF
1-14     EDWARDS AQUIFER. Water other than surface water may not be used for
1-15     injection into or artificial recharge of the Edwards Aquifer.
1-16           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
