                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the creation of the County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton
 1-3     County and to the jurisdiction of and certain procedure in that
 1-4     court.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Subsection (a), Section 25.0631, Government Code,
 1-7     is amended to read as follows:
 1-8           (a)  Denton County has the following statutory county courts:
 1-9                 (1)  County Court at Law No. 1 of Denton County;
1-10                 (2)  County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County;
1-11                 (3)  County Criminal Court No. 1 of Denton County;
1-12                 (4) [(3)]  County Criminal Court No. 2 of Denton
1-13     County;
1-14                 (5) [(4)]  County Criminal Court No. 3 of Denton
1-15     County;
1-16                 (6) [(5)]  County Criminal Court No. 4 of Denton
1-17     County; and
1-18                 (7) [(6)]  County Criminal Court No. 5 of Denton
1-19     County.
1-20           SECTION 2.  Section 25.0633, Government Code, is amended by
1-21     adding Subsections (e), (f), (g), and (h) to read as follows:
1-22           (e)  The County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County has
1-23     jurisdiction over all civil causes and proceedings, original and
1-24     appellate, prescribed by law for county courts.
1-25           (f)  The County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County does not
 2-1     have jurisdiction over:
 2-2                 (1)  causes and proceedings concerning roads, bridges,
 2-3     and public highways;
 2-4                 (2)  the general administration of county business that
 2-5     is within the jurisdiction of the commissioners court of each
 2-6     county; or
 2-7                 (3)  criminal causes and proceedings.
 2-8           (g)  The County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County has the
 2-9     jurisdiction provided by general law for county courts, statutory
2-10     county courts, or district courts over civil penalties and
2-11     forfeitures, including bail bond forfeitures and escheats,
2-12     regardless of the amount in controversy or remedy sought.
2-13           (h)  Appeals in all cases from judgments and orders of the
2-14     County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County are to the court of
2-15     appeals as provided for an appeal from a district or county court.
2-16           SECTION 3.  The County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County is
2-17     created and this Act takes effect May 1, 2002.
